Below, Sandra highlights how she believes technology can be a force for good, and why finding your niche is the secret to success!
“On the one hand, I always played it safe; I got a degree, a good job in banking, and I bought a house. But over the years, I saw a lot happening in business, from food to fashion, that I wasn’t comfortable with.
I started thinking more about my own responsibility and my power as an individual to change things.
I knew I didn’t want to keep climbing the corporate ladder, and it was during this time I discovered the world of corporate social responsibility.
I realized that business can play a role in driving positive social and environmental change, and this was an “ah-ha!” moment for me.
When I met my Co-founder, Gordon, who had already started the Good On You project, I instantly connected with the cause. I knew this is what I wanted to do – to help grow
into something everyone could access to make a real difference.
During this journey, I’ve been given one particularly bad piece of advice; I’ve been told to be careful not get stuck in a niche when it comes to my next career step.
There’s two things really wrong with that – “being careful” means holding back. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t taken a chance on what I thought was right for me, and for the impact I wanted to make.
Finding your niche is exactly what it’s all about!
"I believe we should be honing in on what makes us tick, what we’re good at, and what we really care about. That’s the place where we can grow, where we can be happy, and where we can contribute in the best way possible.”
